Developing And Mastering Organizational Skills: Story Of Ramzy L.
" It is about building structure for life. These are skills I am going to use forever. These are skills I will use for my life! That is what is really great. It is completely worth everything I have put into it. I am very grateful for EFC. "

Organizational Skills With Ramzy
Ramzy’s organizational skills didn’t develop overnight in his sleep. It took him a lot of trial and error and grit to get through it. When Ramzy joined Executive Functions Coach’s program as a freshman in high school, he was “at a point of no escape.” A lack of organizational behavior led him to be behind on over 50 assignments. Helping Ramzy get back on track wasn’t something as easy as providing some organization tips. We had to do some triage to get him back on track for school and pass his classes, but the real work started the summer leading up to his sophomore year. A series of executive functions strategy sessions and check-ins helped keep him accountable to the new organizational skills he was developing.
All throughout sophomore year, the EFC team worked with Ramzy and his family to understand the organizational skills we were implementing and how to best structure things at home. We worked on calendaring, chunking, and scaffolding. Ramzy was also able to get some additional support with neurofeedback therapy. What really helped Ramzy change his organizational behavior was working through his tendencies to lie and avoid situations. You can say that Ramzy was a smooth talker! Whenever he let things slip too far, he always had a story, but he could never trick his executive functions coach. Through a lot of, “This is how to be more organized epiphanies,” things finally started to click for Ramzy. He finally took responsibilities for his actions and his future. His organizational skills improved and we were able to scaffold and pull back our support.
Ramzy's Success
Today, Ramzy’s organizational skills have carried him well at the University of Arizona. He finished off his first year with nearly all A’s and even made the Dean’s list. Something the EFC team and Ramzy’s mom cried over when he told us over the phone. His mastery in executive functions skills extends to him giving out organization tips in his “How to be More Organized” workshop at his local YMCA Youth Government. Ramzy is now finishing up his first semester of his second year at University of Arizona and we couldn’t be prouder of him. The structure and organizational skills he has learned and integrated into his life will lead to more opportunities!
