UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

Smart, Capable, and Still Falling Behind. That Is an EF Problem.

High school raises the stakes for executive function challenges in ways middle school does not. More classes, more deadlines, more independence expected and far less tolerance for falling behind. College raises them further. For students who have been compensating for EF challenges their whole academic life, the first year away from home is often when those compensations stop working. If your student is struggling not because they lack intelligence but because they cannot manage the volume, this is exactly what I do. And if your teenager thinks they do not need help? I have heard that.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Chronically disorganized

Backpack, room, assignments, and schedule, all of it.

Resists help

Insists they have it handled right up until they do not.

Blindsided by deadlines

Misses things that have been on the calendar for weeks.

College applications looming

You are watching the deadline approach feeling quietly anxious.

Homework standoffs

Drains everyone and accomplishes very little.

You have stopped asking

Because the answer ruins the evening.

“This is not a motivation problem. It is an executive function problem. And it is solvable.”

WHY IT WORKS

Why Executive Function Coaching for Teens Gets Results

Most adults who try to help teenagers make the same mistake: they impose systems. Planners handed down. Schedules created by parents. Teenagers reject this, not because they are being difficult, but because the adolescent brain is wired to resist external control and seek autonomy. Working with that wiring produces results that fighting it never does. I coach students, not at them. My approach builds systems around how they think, not how I think they should think.

Tutoring

Addresses content
Helps with what they are struggling to understand.

Therapy

Addresses wellbeing
Supports emotional and psychological health.

EF Coaching

Addresses the root
Builds the skills that make everything else work.

Here Is Exactly What Happens in Your 30-Minute Consultation

A lot of parents come in wondering if this is going to feel like a sales pitch. Here is what actually happens, minute by minute.

1
Minutes 1-10

I listen — really listen

I ask you to describe your child’s challenges in your own words. No intake forms before the call — just a real conversation. This is where I find out whether I can help.

2
Minutes 11-15

I set the stage clearly

I give you a quick overview of what executive function coaching is and how it differs from tutoring or therapy — so you have the full picture before we go any further.

3
Minutes 16-25

I tell you exactly what I see

Based on what you share, I explain how I would approach your child’s situation — what a coaching plan would look like and what realistic progress looks like over three months.

4
Minutes 25-30

I'll give you my honest answer

If coaching is the right fit I will tell you how to move forward. If it is not, I will tell you that too — and point you toward what I think would actually help your child.

No pressure in this conversation

My practice is small by design, and I will only recommend coaching if I am confident it will produce real results for your teen. The consultation is how we both find out.

Questions Most Parents Ask Before Booking

Coaching programs range from $650 to $1,500 per month depending on session frequency and level of support. Foundation is $650/month, Accelerated is $1,200/month, and Intensive is $1,500/month. Coaching is month-to-month, and I recommend three months to see lasting results. The consultation is the right place to figure out what fits your student.

You’re never locked in. Coaching is month-to-month, and you can stop whenever you want. I recommend giving it three months, because executive function change is built through repetition. Most students notice a difference within the first month, but the lasting changes take longer to settle in. If at any point you feel your student isn’t making progress, or they’ve made enough that it’s time to test their independence, we’ll talk it through and decide together. Any sessions you’ve paid for and haven’t used stay as credit, and that credit never expires.

Most families see meaningful change within 8 to 12 weeks. For high school and college students the shifts often show up in specific, concrete ways first. Assignments submitted on time, less emotional escalation around deadlines, clearer communication about what they need.

This is the most common thing I hear from parents of teenagers. The short answer is yes, but the approach matters enormously. I do not lead with the idea that your student needs to be fixed. I lead with curiosity about what they find frustrating and what they wish were easier. When a student feels like coaching is their idea, the outcomes are completely different. The consultation is a good place to talk through how I approach this specifically.

Tutoring helps a student understand content they are struggling with. Executive function coaching addresses something entirely different: the skills that determine whether a student can manage their own work independently, regardless of subject. A student who understands the material but cannot organize their time or start their assignments has an EF challenge, not a content gap.

Yes. A lot of the students I work with have ADHD, whether it’s diagnosed or just suspected. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to start. If your teen is showing the executive function struggles that come with ADHD and wants help building systems around them, that’s what this coaching is for. Executive function coaching targets exactly the skills ADHD makes hardest: getting started, managing time, and staying organized. A diagnosis can still be worth pursuing on its own, since it helps your teen understand how their mind works and can unlock accommodations at school and later at work. When it’s useful, I coordinate with therapists and psychiatrists.

Metacognition is the ability to think about your own thinking. To notice how you learn, where you get stuck, and why certain approaches work for you and others do not. For high school students preparing for college and for college students already navigating it, this builds a layer of self-awareness that makes every other EF skill more effective. If this sounds relevant to your student, mention it during the consultation.

I coach students ages 14 and up: high school, college, and beyond. That’s where my method works best, since it depends on a student being ready to observe and direct their own thinking. If you’re looking for support for a younger child, I’d usually recommend executive function coaching for the parents instead, so you can build stronger EF structure at home. That’s something I offer when it’s a fit. Reach out and we’ll figure out what makes sense for your family.

I will outline a recommended coaching program, including frequency, focus areas, and expected timeline, and walk you through what getting started looks like. There is no pressure to decide during the consultation itself. Most families take a day or two, and I am available for follow-up questions before you commit to anything.
